LYC at Holy Week Festival

Performances by London Youth Choirs are to be shown as part of the 2021 Holy Week Festival.

The annual festival is curated by professional vocal ensemble and LYC Education Partners Tenebrae, and hosted at the church of St John’s, Smith Square in Westminster.

Each year, the festival presents leading artists in performances of beautiful music written for the Christian seasons of Lent, Passiontide and Eastertide.

This year’s virtual festival runs from 28 March – 5 April and features specially-filmed performances by Tenebrae and other performers, including LYC. LYC’s performances will be shared across several days in the festival via Tenebrae and St John’s Smith Square social media.

All 2021 Holy Week Festival performances are free to view for up to 30 days.

LYC Artistic Director Rachel Staunton said:

“Our partnership with Tenebrae enables us to inspire our diverse rising stars at LYC, and to open their eyes and ears to the professional choral world. It has been amazing to have the support of Tenebrae’s Associate Artists to lead workshops and sectionals for our young singers this season, enabling us to work on much more demanding repertoire. It is a privilege for our 300 members to appear alongside them – digitally! – in this year’s Holy Week Festival and we are truly grateful to them and Nigel Short for their ongoing support.”

Tenebrae Development & Learning Co-ordinator Bradley Gill said:

“The scale, enthusiasm and quality of LYC (either in person or recently online) are so impressive! It’s a pleasure for Tenebrae to be in partnership with them, sharing performances and insights with their brilliant young singers.”
