London Youth Choirs (LYC) will be taking part in the D-Day 80 Commemorations in Normandy, in an international televised broadcast by the BBC. London Youth Chamber Choir, conducted by Matthew Quinn, will be performing on Thursday 6 June alongside celebrity guest artists at the British Normandy Memorial.

On the 80th anniversary of D-Day, there will be a series of major commemorations and events across the UK and in France. In the morning, London Youth Chamber Choir will give a live performance at the British Normandy Memorial with soloist Naomi Kimpenu and the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, as part of a BBC television and radio broadcast.

Additional guest artists at the event will include Johnny Flynn and Sir Tom Jones.

Artistic Director Rachel Staunton said:

“It is an honour and privilege for LYC to participate in such an important commemoration. At LYC we believe in the power of choral music to enhance lives, and on this special occasion our hope is that the beauty and poignancy of these young voices will do just that.”

Executive Director Nina Camilleri said:

“To pay tribute to the brave people who fought for our freedom on D-Day is a profound privilege. We are deeply humbled to play a part in this momentous occasion as we commemorate the great sacrifices of those who gave their lives in the service of our country. May their bravery, resilience and sense of duty continue to guide and inspire the youth of today.”
