CHAMPIONS FOR CHILDREN APPEAL
Join us from 4 – 18 June 2024 for our Champions for Children Appeal!
We are raising £50,000 to help more young people access the transformative power of singing in a choir – a chance to find their own unique voice and a musical community. For two weeks only, every donation will be doubled!
All young people deserve to experience the joy and benefits of singing in a choir, but for many these opportunities are not accessible due to the cost or lack of local provision.
This means they miss out on opportunities to develop not only musical skills, but teamwork, confidence and concentration, which are instrumental in allowing young people to reach their potential.
Parliamentary debate, March 2024: ‘We have what is starting to be considered a crisis in music education… Sadly there are now 20,000 fewer state school bands, orchestras, ensembles and choirs than there were seven years ago, so this is a timely debate.’
LYC’s team of music leaders make a real substantial difference to the lives and ambitions of young Londoners.
We run 10 weekly choirs, working with nearly 500 young people from all over the capital each week. LYC Experience, our programme of outreach in schools and communities, delivers inspiring singing sessions in 16 state schools around the capital.
We want to break down barriers to music education for young people.
Funds raised in this campaign will go towards our Financial Assistance Scheme, which makes sure we can provide free and subsidised places, travel and uniform support for young people and families facing barriers.
What is Champions for Children?
Champions for Children provides unrestricted funding to charities working to alleviate the impact of poverty on children across London.
Hosted by The Big Give, the UK’s largest match-funding website, the campaign offers supporters of participating charities the opportunity to double their donations with match funding provided by a charities’ pledgers and The Childhood Trust.
That means that, from 4th – 18th June, if you give £10 to London Youth Choirs, we’ll receive £20! If you Gift Aid your donation, we’ll get £22.50.
