We did it thanks to you!

London Youth Choirs’ ‘No Barriers’ appeal has beaten its £85,000 target – thanks to you!

London Youth Choirs’ ‘No Barriers’ fundraising appeal has beaten its £85,000 target, raising a grand total of £92,289 including Gift Aid contributions.

The appeal was the most ambitious in LYC’s history – and yet the target was beaten in just seven days as part of the nationwide Big Give Christmas Challenge 2020 campaign which selected a total of 764 national charities to make their appeals to the public.

‘No Barriers’ was also LYC’s most-supported appeal, with a total of 136 individual donors – 29 more than the previously most-supported appeal (107). It was also in the top 3% of all Big Give Christmas Challenge 2020 appeals in terms of funds raised.

The success means that LYC can continue to ensure that financial circumstances are never a barrier to participation in LYC for any young Londoner. The fundraising will also help LYC to increase its reach into London’s diverse communities through activities including new LYC area choirs for outlying metropolitan boroughs.

LYC Co-Founder and Artistic Director Rachel Staunton said:

“The impact of the LYC No Barriers appeal / Big Give Christmas Challenge 2020 will be powerfully felt by our participants this year, more than ever. The kindness we have experienced this week propels our work with 250 families to mitigate the barriers that many young people face. This amazing funding will really make a difference to the support and engagement that we can offer to our most vulnerable and deprived, and on their behalf, may I say a huge thank you.”

LYC Chief Executive Nina Camilleri said:

“The LYC No Barriers appeal / Big Give Christmas Challenge 2020 has been truly inspirational, made all the more exceptional against the backdrop of what has been a difficult year for everyone. We give grateful thanks to our amazing community of supporters – families, friends, fabulous staff team, Trustees, long-standing supporters, new donors, and charitable trusts – together with the crucial advocacy of our Patron Gareth Malone and great friend Jo Brand. Our Champion funder, The Childhood Trust deserves a very special mention. They have supported LYC right from the very beginning of our Big Give fundraising experience. There is no doubt that the Trust’s support has been pivotal for LYC, enabling us to help and influence the lives of so many more young people across London.”

To celebrate the success, LYC has released a music video of Jackie Wilson’s ‘(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher’, recorded during lockdown earlier this year by 81 members of the LYC choirs.

THANK YOU!

To celebrate beating our ‘No Barriers’ appeal target we’re releasing this new video of ‘Higher and Higher’, recorded in lockdown earlier this year by 81 members of LYC. Enjoy… and THANK YOU!
