LYC Cambiata Girls Member Mia reflects on a Choral Scholarship Open Day at the University of Cambridge

A Day in Cambridge

When we first arrived in Cambridge, it was quite different to the area of London I am used to, which is Lewisham.

We stayed in a hotel in Cambridge the day before the choral experience. In the morning, we went over to St John St and were introduced to the people running the course.

Graham Ross told us a bit about the programme for the day. We separated from our parents and started rehearsals for a few hours.

During the breaks we went on a tour of Cambridge, including looking round the campus grounds. We saw a few other nearby chapels.

After the final rehearsal of all the new songs we learned that day, we walked over to Emmanuel college chapel and performed the pieces in front of our families, with Graham as our conductor.

I really liked singing a piece called Dyson in D as Graham said we were doing well with it and I thought the choir sounded really good.

Overall, it was a really fun experience and we learned a lot in one day, especially when the students who actually go to Cambridge explained what it is like for them.

Now that I am home, it is really helpful to look back and think about all those experiences and the information we got about Cambridge and what it would be like to go there.

Thank you so much to everyone who spent time with us and included us, it was really good and now it is a happy memory.
