We are pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Quinn as Conductor of LYC Chamber Choir.

Matthew Quinn is a Northern Irish conductor, composer and singer who is quickly developing a reputation for his exciting and dynamic approach to his music making. Working across the UK and Ireland, Matthew has conducted a range of high-quality ensembles such as the chorus and orchestra of Northern Ireland Opera, Chamber Choir Ireland, Cappella Caeciliana, Myriad Chamber Choir, Crouch End Festival Chorus, Genesis Sixteen, and Manchester Philharmonic Choir. He has recently made professional debuts with the Ulster Orchestra and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. 

Matthew has held young artist positions as a conductor at Northern Ireland Opera, The Sixteen, and Crouch End Festival Chorus, and has studied with illustrious conductors such as Sir Harry Christophers, Eamonn Dougan, and David Temple MBE. He is currently the musical director of Northern Ireland Opera’s chorus development programme.

Matthew says:

“I am extremely excited to be the new director of the London Youth Chamber Choir. These are incredibly talented young people that sing with real joy, commitment and enthusiasm, and I knew from the first moments of my audition that I wanted to work with them and support them in the next stage of their musical careers. Not only that, but they are supported by the most incredible team at LYC who are deeply committed to providing the best musical education and experiences for young people in London. We have an absolutely jam-packed year of really exciting projects coming up – let’s get started!”

Building on a formative decade of LYC Chamber Choir, Matthew joins us at a pivotal time and I believe that his brilliant leadership, combined with our diverse and committed young singers, will take choral singing opportunities in London to the next level!”
