Meet the 23-24 LYC Chamber Choir

SOPRANOS

Arwen (she/her)

Arwen studies Classical Harp as a scholar at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She enjoys performing a wide spectrum of music, particularly within the Social Arts sphere, as well as arranging and composing for her folk band. LYC has been integral in enabling Arwen
to pursue her love of both choral and close harmony singing.

Elizabeth (she/her)

Lizzie is a 3rd year medical student at UCL, currently intercalating in the History and Philosophy of medicine. Alongside LYCC, she enjoys singing with a couple of other choirs and churches in and around London. When she’s not busy singing or falling asleep in a library, she loves to do some baking and explore London with friends!

Grace (she/her)

Grace is currently in Y13 studying Music, Drama and German. She is a member of a variety of choirs including her school’s A Cappella group and Gospel choir, as well as the National Youth Choir (15-18). After sixth form Grace plans to study music and pursue singing as a career!

Martha (she/her)

Martha is a music graduate from Royal Holloway University. She also sings with the National Youth Choir and National Youth Chamber Choir, as well as many other choirs around London, including a choral scholarship. When she’s not singing she works in a music shop, and has a website from which she draws people’s pets!

Maya (she/her)

Maya is in her second year of undergraduate study, reading Music at King’s College London and receiving vocal tuition with Hannah Thomas at the Royal Academy of Music. Aside from LYC, Maya is the musical director of King’s College London Music Society’s Vocal Consort, as well as a keen member of the University of London Chamber Choir and The Rodolfus Choir. When she does not have a Tchaikovsky score in hand, Maya enjoys spending time with her friends, watching concerts, and long walks in the countryside.

Orla (she/her)

Orla is a trainee teacher studying primary education with music at Reading University. She was recently awarded a conducting scholarship with the charity Sing for Pleasure and when not conducting choirs can be found singing in the National Youth Choir or walking her dogs! Orla works for Berkshire Maestros teaching early years music classes and has recently joined the LYC staff team as a Deputy Assistant Leader.

ALTOS

Ellisse (she/her)

Ellisse is currently studying Philosophy, History and Sociology. She is a massive fan of jazz and rnb music and in her spare time she does acting, dance and songwriting.

Emily (she/her)

Emily is currently in her final year studying dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. In her spare time she likes adventuring outdoors such as scuba diving, roller blading, juggling and skiing and teaching her little cousins ballet.

Jenny (she/her)

Jenny is a singer from Cumbria currently doing vocal studies at Trinity Laban. As well as the London Youth Chamber Choir, She’s also a member of The National Youth Choir and has been since 2014! In her spare time she loves to bake and FaceTime her family and cats who feel very far away up in the North West! She’s very excited to see where her time in LYC will take her.

Rachael (she/her)

Rachael is currently in her second year of studying an undergrad BMus (voice) at the Royal Academy of Music, taught by Alex Ashworth and Michael Chance. Rachael does a lot of choral singing, and is looking to explore choral conducting in the near future! She loves reading dystopian or mythological/ancient civilisation books, photography, and enjoys listening to a range of music but a favourite genre is film music or “epic” music.

Talitha (she/they)

Talitha is currently in sixth form. Outside LYC Talitha plays the trumpet at the Junior Royal Academy of Music and with Merton Music Foundation. When Talitha is not doing anything musical they are probably doing some art, watching tv or reading.

TENORS

(Charlie) YuXiang (he/him)

(Charlie) YuXiang enjoys singing and is learning to sing opera, playing the tuba and Erhu as a hobby. He is especially fond of different genres of music and would love to share his love for music with others.

Caleb (he/him)

Caleb is in sixth form studying Music, Drama and History. He has loved singing all his life and also plays the clarinet and saxophone. Caleb is interested in composition, and he particularly enjoys writing, performing and watching musical theatre.

Danny (he/him)

Danny is cellist and singer from Tower Hamlets, who studied with Dr Oliver Gledhill at the Junior Guildhall, where he has since joined the Symphony Orchestra and String Ensemble. Alongside this, Danny has attended Pro Corda chamber music courses for many years. While Danny loves the excitement of orchestral performances, he is particularly drawn to Chamber Music, for its intimacy and emotional power, and hopes to perform this professionally in the future.

Naveen (he/him)

Naveen is currently studying BMus (Hons) Music Performance in Vocal Studies at Trinity Laban. He sings a variety of repertoire including classical, musical theatre, and modern. Naveen has performed with many choirs including Only Boys Aloud and Ariosa Singers. He was also part of The Coronation Choir for the King’s Coronation. Naveen enjoys playing piano and violin and has done Grade 8 Singing, Grade 8 Musical Theatre Performance and Grade 7 Piano.

BASSES

Anton (he/him)

Anton is in Year 12 and is currently studying German, History, Politics and Maths at Harris Westminster Sixth Form. As well as singing, Anton plays the trombone and loves reading about history.

Felix

Age 17, Felix has been a member of LYC since 2015. Based in north west London, Felix is in the National Youth Choir (15-18) and also plays the piano. Felix is currently in sixth form and studies maths, physics and geography.

Victor (he/him)

Victor is currently his last year of college, studying music, history and maths. He sings bass in the choir and also plays electric guitar in a band with his friends.

Pavlo (he/him)

Pavlo is a composer, pianist and singer from Ukraine. As a child, he was a member of the Kiev Palace of Children and Youth Choir, and went on to study piano and voice at the Kyiv Academy of Art. Since being in the UK, he has organised two charity concerts, raising over £2000 to support Ukrainian children affected by the war.

Giorgio

Giorgio was a member of the LYC several years ago but took a break to complete his A Levels. He is now back in the Chamber Choir and is currently studying an art foundation course at UAL Camberwell.
