Meet the 23-24 Young Leaders Collective

The Young Leaders Collective (YLC) is a group of young people in London Youth Choir and LYC Chamber Choir who meet regularly throughout the year to discuss LYC, and to learn about charity governance and careers in the arts. The YLC is supported by the YLC Ground Team, who act as representatives for the choirs.

(Charlie) YuXiang

(Charlie) YuXiang enjoys singing and is learning to sing opera, playing the tuba and Erhu as a hobby. He is especially fond of different genres of music and would love to share his love for music with others.

Darcy

Darcy 16 years old, in year 12 of secondary school. She is currently studying maths, further maths, physics and philosophy, and alsos play the violin and piano alongside singing. Darcy enjoys playing in orchestras such as the Chineke! Junior orchestra and singing in choirs such as the National Youth Choir.

Emily

Emily is currently in her final year studying dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. In her spare time she likes adventuring outdoors such as scuba diving, roller blading, juggling and skiing and teaching her little cousins ballet.

Evie

Evie plays the piano and saxophone as well as singing in choirs including her school chamber choir and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. Evie really enjoys jazz music.

Grace

Grace (she/her) is currently in Y13 studying Music, Drama and German. She is a member of a variety of choirs including her school’s A Cappella group and Gospel choir, as well as the National Youth Choir (15-18). After sixth form Grace plans to study music and pursue singing as a career!

Julia

Julia is in year 12 and studies Biology, Chemistry, French, and Spanish at A-level. She hopes to go into a field that involves working abroad and humanitarian aid. Julia is fascinated by languages and the history and culture that involve them. She absolutely loves music – all kinds! Her favourite styles of music are rhythm and blues, and jazz. Julia also plays the violin, and her goal is to learn to play the saxophone.

Mary

Mary is currently studying maths, drama and English language. Mary mostly sings now but has played instruments in the past and also used to crochet!

Noa

Noa studies Business, Music Technology, Sociology at A-levels and has completed A-level Spanish. Noa loves music, and plays piano and violin, learns music theory and sings in 5 choirs. The genres that she listens to and enjoys the most are classical music and soul music. In Noa’s free time she enjoys creating new recipes or sitting down with a book and a good cup of tea.

Octavia

Pavlo

Pavlo is a composer, pianist and singer from Ukraine. As a child, he was a member of the Kiev Palace of Children and Youth Choir. He studied piano and voice at the Kyiv Academy of Art, and enjoyed immersing himself in music theory, harmony, compsition, conducting, piano ensemble, and choral performance. Since being in the UK, he has organised two charity concerts, raising over £2000 to support Ukrainian children affected by the war.

Rachael

Rachael is currently in her second year of studying an undergrad BMus (voice) at the Royal Academy of Music, taught by Alex Ashworth and Michael Chance. Rachael does a lot of choral singing, and is looking to explore choral conducting in the near future! She loves reading dystopian or mythological/ancient civilisation books, photography, and enjoys listening to a range of music but a favourite genre is film music or “epic” music.

Tia

Tia has just finished her third year of a bachelors degree for mechanical engineering. Tia enjoys a very large range of music and is open to listening to anything because she loves it so much. Additionally, Tia dedicates herself to learning how to play the guitar and produce music in her free time.
